Accomplishments & Next Steps
What have I done and what do I hope to do next.
Public Safety
Funded hiring and retention bonuses to hire to retain and hire deputies. Provided wellness supports for our officers so they are healthy physically and mentally to do this challenging work.

I want to continue to work to increase training and supports so officer stay with Pierce County, learn the community the serve so we can build relationships.
I want to continue to build resources like Co-Responders and Crisis response teams so that we have mental health supports responding.
Opioid Crisis
Funded and chaired our Opioid Task Force, while continuing to work with our community leaders that support those that suffer from opioid addiction and those that use drugs.

I want to work with city and county leaders, providers and those with lived experiences to build a network of support systems. When someone decides today they want to work on recovery, they should be able to access help that moment. Tomorrow is too late.

Environment
Supported and passed the county's first real climate policy that works to increase tree canopy, reduce green house gas production and works to plan for housing and infrastructure with those ideas in mind.

I want to focus on the health and quantity of our drinking water. We are looking to start our first county operated water utility, and we face many challenges including PFAS contamination, salt water intrusion, and impacts to our water returning to our vast aquifer.
Youth
Funded expanded childcare, youth mental health resources directly in our schools, summer activities for teens, youth engagement & employment opportunities, and stabilizing the work of our Birth to 25 Advisory Commission.

I want to make sure that we continue making Pierce County a great place to grow up. This means providing high quality childcare, safe places to explore, grow and have fun, and opportunities for teens to take those next steps towards adulthood through mentorships and educational experiences.
Affordable Housing
Supported and worked to pass the Maureen Howard Affordable Housing Act that will bring millions of dollars to the county to help us partner with for profit and non profit builders to produce permenatly affordable housing and supportive housings.

I want to makes sure that we focus on where these units are going across the county, that we look to meet the needs of many whether it is families, seniors, those living with disabilties, veterans and people with mental health issues. This takes partnerships, data collection and policy to expand the reach and do the most good.
Homelessness
Supported the work of those in our community as we developed our Comprehensive Plan to End Homelessness. We funded and provided policy changes where need expanding different types of shelter, safe parking and permanent supportive housing options.

I want to bring the work together at the County level by standing up a Unified Regional Approach that pulls together all our cities and towns, and our providers so we can work together. Homelessness happens everywhere.
Domestic Violence
Supported and fought for an in-depth look at how survivors of domestic violence seek help in Pierce County. I have worked hard as the Vice Chair of the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center Board, and my work with providers across the county to learn the gaps. Provided funding for providers to expand services and pilot programs and services.

I want to establish better connections between the courts, our pro-bono legal services and professional advocates by creating spaces for them to work together at the county.
Veterans & Active Duty Service Members
Brought the Hidden Hero Program to Pierce County, and worked to expand the capacity of our county's veterans service officers. Provided funding to the Orting Veterans Village to help them increase the number of tiny homes, and worked to help our veterans and their families understand the opportunity of the PACT Act.

I want to expand shelter spaces for our homeless veterans so no one that served is living on the streets. I want to create more housing and childcare opportunities for our active duty service members so they can focus on their mission.
